Chapter 19-The Return of the Guards
The guards are coming back from lunch.
“Say Charles, that lunch wasn’t as good as the Steeple food huh?”
“Nope. I still prefer those messy nachos on Fridays.”
“I hear that!”
It’s Foe and his friend Charles from the Creepy Steeple. They got a transfer from the Steeple due to their failure they had with the rebels.
“But, Joe, how could we have failed?”
Joe turns to Charles. “Dude, I don’t even know what we failed AT!”
“You’d think they’d tell us what we failed at BEFORE they transfer us for failing…”
Joe sighs. “Man, I think something is going on up top. You know what I mean?”
Charles nods. “Yeah. Otherwise, why wouldn’t we be told WHY we are being transferred?”
Joe nods. “I know. It just ain’t right.”
The two chat on the topic as they return to their posts. They round the corner to the jail cells holding Keenan and the others when they see the master in white exiting the room with the prisoners.
Joe notices this first and starts running up to him. “Hey! You! What do you think you’re doing with the prisoners?”
The man in white turns to face them. Charles joins Joe now. “I am taking them to the other holding cell on floor F in block R with the other prized prisoners. I thought that maybe Beldam would like that more than to have them rot in this drafty and cramped one.”
“Ssso you thought I would like that?”
The man in white whips around to see Beldam right behind him. “Isss that what you are sssaying?”
“…yes?” The man in white just got a little more white. In the face.
Beldam stares at him, inspecting him, like she was reading his very soul. After a few circles around him, she stops and claps her hands. They are still quite slimy, so the sound is rather disgusting. “Well, my dear… you thought right! I would rather like that indeed!”
The MIW sighs. “I thought you would my Mistress. Should I take them there immediately?”
Beldam raises a hand. “Meh, sssure. Go ahead. I’ll talk to them later. Away with them!”
The MIW bows to her “right away Mistress Beldam” and walks the prisoners to the other cell block. Keenan starts to struggle. “You know what Beldam?! I’ll be the one to defeat you! I can promise you that!” On ‘that’, the ‘a’ is lengthened as he is dragged around a corner. Beldam notices the turn and rushes up to the MIW who stops as he sees her approach.
“Wait a moment… what isss your name?” She asks pointing at the MIW. He starts to sweat. Luckily the full body suit hides this.
“To be honest, I never got a name…”
Beldam, confused, looks him in the eye.
“You…never…GOT, a name? You sssay you never got one? Elaborate thisss for me.”
The MIW sighs and lifts his head up. “It’s…kinda embarassing actually…” He pauses. “I never got one from my parents. I was an orphan. Raised by Koopas, left home at the age of seventeen, and worked for a living until twenty. After that I got hired here and here I am. I was asked for a name by some of the guards and other masters, but I told them what I’m telling you know. They all call me MIW for Man In White. I don’t like it much…”
Beldam stares at the man with a curious look. “Really? You mean to tell me you, liteally, have no name whatsssoever?”
The man nods. “Yep.”
Beldam pauses for a moment, then bursts into tears laughing. The laugh sounds like sharp nails on a blackboard combined with a sick rooster crowing all twisted up with a rotten egg plopping onto the floor. It makes the man and the prisoners shudder. After the creature calms down, she says to the man, “Well in that cassse, let me give you a name!”
The man, obviously Waluigi, almost jumps for joy. “Wow! Really? Thanks Mistress!”
“Oh no problem! No problem at all my dear man! Now let’sss sssee… how’sss about Mitchell?”
Waluigi nods. “I like it! Thanks!”
Beldam nods, eyes shut, anime style. “No problem my dear traitor!”
“Thanks a lot Misss…what?”
Beldam opens her eyes. They show pure anger. “I sssaid, no problem my dear traitor. Did I ssstutter? I think not.” She slowly approaches Waluigi, who is stammering. “I’m not a traitor! Why on earth would you think that?!”
Beldam hisses. “You actually thought you could get away with it, didn’t you?”
Waluigi starts sweating a lot more. “Get away with what? I honestly have no idea what you are talking about! Honestly!”
Beldam orders Joe and Charles, who had snuck up behind them, to grab the prisoners. They take them by surprise and keep them held down. Beldam grabs the MIW an tosses him into a wall, where she dashes and pins him against it. “You thought you could sssteal my necklassse didn’t you!”
“I swear I’m sorry for-wait. Your necklace?”
“Don’t play daft with me boy! I see it right there dangling off your pocket!”
Keenan and the other two drop their jaws. Waluigi stops moving. Then, Waluigi starts chuckling. Beldam asks what is so funny.
“I thought you were accusing me of something WAY bigger! If that’s your necklace, then take it! I found it outside the main gate just under a fallen pillar! It was twinkling in the dim light! I picked it up and have been asking everyone who it belonged to! And yet, you, Beldam, never crossed my mind! If it does belong to you then just take it. I didn’t steal it, I found it.”
Beldam, still pinning him up, looks downward, She shuts her eyes and lets him go. She makes a gesture at the guards to let the prisoner up but not let go. The guards give the ‘leashes’ to the MIW and bow. “We apolagize for this sir” Joe and Charles say in unison. Waluigi tells them to think nothing of it.
“Um…I too apolagize Mr. Mitchell, I thought you actually ssstole it.”
“Nah! Think nothing of it!”
Beldam’s tone changes to curiosity. “But, what did you mean, when you sssaid you thought it wasss something bigger I wasss acusssing you of?”
Waluigi looks at her. “Well, I have heard, but not yet confirmed, that there is a traitor in our ranks. I heard that he is a master, like me, but like the others dress in the uniform they are shown. I have heard rumors about how he plans to break out the prisoners from their cells here. That’s another reason that I wanted to move them to another cell block.”
Beldam seems very alert. “I sssee. Thank you for the information Mitchell.”
“Please, call me Mitch for short.”
Beldam snickers. “Sssure thing, ‘Mitch’. Sssee you later.” Beldam retreats into the shadows of the floor and slowly dissappears into the ground. The guards Joe and Charles look at each other, at Waluigi, then to each other again. They shrug and approach Waluigi who is now heading back down the hallway. Waluigi notices this and asks them why they are following him.
Joe says “our posts are guarding these three. Wherever they are, we are.” Charles nods to this.
Waluigi turns to the prisoners, sighs, and says “alright. Come on.”
As they follow them, Keenan uses his powers to ask some questions.
WALUIGI, HOW WILL THE PLAN WORK IF THESE TWO ARE FOLLOWING US?
Waluigi doesn’t move.
WILL IT WORK AT ALL?
Waluigi nods slowly.
WHAT IF THEY BEGIN TO SUSPECT SOMETHING? WILL WE STILL BE ABLE TO PULL IT OFF?
Waluigi nods.
Eventually, they make it to the new cell block. As coincidence would have it, it is the same room just outside the tower with the planets on the mobile. The same room with the little moats and bridges.
“All right, here we are!”
Waluigi shows the ‘prisoners’ the tower.
“This is your new holding cell! The tower itself is like a prison; full of tricks and puzzles for all who try to escape! So, if you were ever to escape your cell, you would still have to solve the tricks and traps just to get out of the tower!”
Keenan groans. “Why bother putting up so much security?”
Waluigi laughs. “Because, you little brat, it’s cool and Beldam wanted it that way.”
Keenan groans again. Waluigi takes them across the bridge to the tower and take them upstairs to the second to top floor. He takes them into a room on the far right and tosses them inside. Soon as the door shuts Keenan and the other two hear fighting and grunts outside. Seconds later the door opens again to show Waluigi, no longer in his white uniform, standing there.
“Come on! We don’t have much time! We need to get going and rendevouz with Fred!”
The three get up and dash down the stairs after Waluigi and past the now unconcious guards of Joe and Charles. They go over the bridge to the tower and dash to their left to the other door opposite the one they entered. They keep running until they reach the chamber of Gloomtail. In the center of the room, Fred is standing there, waiting for them. Soon as they shut the door behind them, quietly, Fred moves from his spot to join up with the team.
“What took ya so long?”
Waluigi exclaims the little encounter with Beldam and the guards.
“Ah. Right. Well, all we have to do now is find Rose, and we’re out of here! Waluigi, you said you knew her holding location?”
He nods and pulls out the map. “We are here,” he says pointing to a small chamber on the map, “and she is held here.” He says this while pointing to a smaller chamber two rooms over. Keenan jumps for joy. Literally. Waluigi watches him as he does this, ans asks, “Keenan, is that really necessary?”
Keenan stops jumping like a tigger on crack and starts rubbing his toes in the carpet, embarassed.
Waluigi clears his throat. “Anyway, we have to break her out as quietly as possible. She has been put in one of our top guarded sectors. One with maximum security. Getting us in, is Fred’s job.” Fred nods. “He’s going to get us in disguised as prisoners and a master. In other words the exact same way we got here. Once we’re in, we simply have to find Rose, open the lock, and go out the window that leads to the storage room next door. We can escape to the front door from there. We’ll have approx. fifteen minutes until they notice that we escaped with the princess and they’ll raise the alarm. We have to be out that front door in less than fifteen minutes, otherwise…” he pauses. “…we are royally screwed.”
Keenan scoffs. “Well, if I’m at the front of the lines, then we’ll be out those door in about five minutes; ten minutes tops.”
Waria shakes her head. “Do you always have to show off your strength?”
Keenan nods. “Yes. Yes I do.”
Fred clears his throat. “We probably should get going then.”
They open the door, and in front of them, waiting, is Rose! Keenan goes to hug her and stops half-way. He notices something is very wrong. “You are not Rose.” He says almost calmly. He is charging up power and preparing to fight. Rose slowly approaches Keenan, who is fully charged by the time she reaches him, and she kisses him. He lowers his guard and bam! He goes flying back through the wall and comes dashing back out the door. This time, he has gone all out! This is obvious since he has created armor out of pure energy, has three blades between his fingers on both hands, has twin blades of pure energy on his back, and a bandana of pure white and blue outlines. Basically Ninja Knight of the Psychic powers.
He dashes so fast that he catches Rose off guard and knocks her flying back into the tower. Keenan flies over and dive bombs right into her! It was restrained so she survives. Scratches, bruises, bleeds, andeven some bumps are given to her. Keenan retreats back to his friends and keeps his guard up this time.
Out of the crater, Rose slowly rises, and all her wounds slowly heal before their eyes! She makes a ‘kamehameha’ pose, and charges up a ball of dark energy! She tosses it, just like Keenan does, and hits him upside the head perfectly! He flies back into the chamber and Rose moves so fast it’s like she teleported there! She hovers above the bruised human boy, charges up another ball of dark energy, and prepares to toss it! Keenan braces for impact. He waits…and waits…and waits…but it never comes. He opens his eyes and sees her left hand stopping her right arm from tossing the orb. He is quite confused. Her face seems to flash, and he sees her eyes change color slightly. When he sees this, he knows this is the REAL Rose!
“Rose! What happened to-“
She quickly interupts him. “Keenan! I don’t have much time! Listen to me very carefully!”
Keenan stares at the face that is flashing back and forth with the eyes. “You must defeat my body to free my mind!”
Keenan nods, not knowing what she said, but knowing what he should do. As he slowly gets up, she continues saying “I don’t want you to be killed…” Keenan is fully standing now. He begins to rise off the ground as Rose continues saying “…so do me a favor…” and when he flashes his furious gaze at the Rose he is about to fight, Rose finishes by screaming “…SO GO ALL OUT!!!”
