Chapter 10-Leaderless
“I have already told you, he wanted to go to town to get some stuff for the jouney’s road ahead. He won’t be back for some time!” Rose is arguing with Waria. “Yeah, but that was over an hour ago! How long has he been gone anyway?” Rose looks at her watch. “About noon.” “You see? He’s been gone for over seven hours! It doesn’t take that long just to buy provisions!” Just then, Keenan turns around the corner, and he sees that everyone is awake. He walks up towards the pool and Wesley taps Waria’s shoulder, teling her that Keenan’s back, and she turns quickly, seeing Keenan. She runs up to him, hugs him tightly, and Keenan doesn’t know what to do! He just pats her on the back, hugs her back gradually, and she leaves the hug later. Keenan explains that the lines were long, the shops were very busy, and that was why he wasn’t back till now. Waria rubs her eyes. Keenan gets up his tree and tells everyone to get their stuff gathered up. Rose walks up to his tree. “Why? We haven’t been attacked here, they don’t know about his place, so why leave? I have known this place for a really long time, and never, never has it been attacked.” Keenan peeks his head over the edge of his nest. “True. However, when I was in town, some people seemed to be following me. Odd people, dressed up in these odd black and purple clothes, and each were wearing different colored hats. I assumed they are the Shadow Stalkers in disguise. I assume they followed me back then went back for reinforcements. So get your stuff gathered up and get ready to leave, post haste!” Rose quicly goes to her tree and get her things. Soon everyone else follows. Soon as all their stuff is gathered up and packed, they quickly head out, with Crystala on point. She flies up high after they run down the road opposite of the town for about ten minutes, then Crystala flies high and scopes out the area. She first checks out their tracks and sees the clearing, which now is being filled up with Shadow Stalkers. She turns to look ahead. She then swoops back down and tells the group what she saw. “Back at the clearing, Keenan was spot on with his hunch. Stalkers are flooding into the clearing. It’s so full, I can’t even see the pool anymore! As for up ahead, it’s nice and clear, but a storm is blowing in… what do we do?” Everyone looks to Keenan, who is already thinking of a plan, and a few seconds pass by until he thinks of something. “Alright everybody, since we are going down this road, and it leads to the Forest of Illusion, maybe we could hide out there until we can think up of a plan to go with as for what to do next. This good with everybody?” Everybody nods. Rose goes up to the front of the group with Keenan and starts talking. They’re just out of earshot of Wesley and Waria. Waria looks at Wesley. “Hey, any idea what they’re talking about?” Wesley looks at her. “Why would it matter?” “I’m just curious…” “By the way, I know you got up last night, but Keenan and Rose were talking to each other. I couldn’t hear what, but you joined in, so… any idea what it was?” Waria instantly stiffens. “No. I don’t know anything.” Wesley looks at her. “I know you better than that. You’re keeping something hidden from me…” Waria starts to shake from keeping the secret a secret. “I’m sorry but I can’t tell you! I promised Keenan!” Wesley gasps slightly, then smiles, then laughs softly. “That’s all I need to know. Look at them. They tell me the rest.” Waria looks at the two, and they’re laughing, enjoying each other’s company. “Well that’s good! That’s very good!” Rose tells Keenan, still out of earshot of the other two, “So, once it’s completed, we can be together without questiong coming up, right?” Keenan nods. “Exactly! Good thing he owed my family a favor, otherwise it probably wouldn’t have happened! So, soon, it’ll be ready. He’ll e-mail me, and I can go pick it up whenever I’m ready!” Rose laughs. Her laugh makes Keenan smile. “That’s wonderful! But, for the greater good, I better get back to my badass mode. Prtoecting and other stuff you know.” “Of course. I understand that.” Keenan nods at Rose. “So, now you know then, huh?” Waria asks Wesley. “Yep. I d-wait!” He suddenly stops. The others all stop and look at him. “I think I hear something…” Several seconds pass by, then Wesley’s eyes widen, and he books it by everybody yelling “RUN! STALKERS FOUND US!” Crystala looks behind them, and sure enough, odd shadows are behind them, with nothing to cause them! She zooms back down. “He’s right! Run for it!” They all sprint down the road, and then up ahead, shadows come out of the shadows, and Stalkers come up from the ground! Rose immediately attacks and she instantly kills all three of them! She takes out her knife to finish them off so they don’t regenerate later. She turns around, takes out a new weapon, and aims at the Stalkers behind them. “Get out of the way!” She screams at our heroes. They see her weapon and jump out of the way. She fires and the projectile hits the middle Stalker about a foot behind the other four on both sides, and they all explode! The one it hit was torn into thousands of pieces, and the other four were combusted into oblivion! Rose keeps the weapon on her shoulder, aiming, and once the smoke clears, she sees nothing left. She puts the giant Bazooka back into her left shoulder pocket on her back, and returns to the front of the group. But when she passes Keenan, he suddenly is pulled from his place and dragged along the ground towards town! Another Shadow Stalker was hiding in the shadows and waited for them! It continues to drag Keenan deeper into the shadows, but Rose grabs hold of Keenan’s legs and pulls. The other three quickly join in! Soon, it’s a tug-of-war for their leaders life, and they’re winning! Soon Keenan “pops” out of the ground and they immediately run out of the brush of the trees back onto the road. They don’t hesitate, turn around, and book it down the road towards town instead. Once they reach town, they check into an inn, and grab one room to share. They didn’t have enough money for a room each. They sit at the table in the center of the room and start to discuss their now plan of action. “What now? That last attack left us both exhausted! They’re sure to know this!” Waria tells them. “I concur. Soon enough, they will know that we dn’t have as much energy at them, and they’ll use that to their advantage!” Wesley says. “Now let’s all just calm down and think.” Keenan assures the group everything will be fine. Rose takes his side. “He’s right. We need to calm down and think about what to do next.” At that moment, Keenan’s ESi goes off. He checks it, reads it to himself, and shuts it, calmly gets up, tells them he’ll be back soon, and leaves the room.
Hours later…
“This isn’t right. Even for him, it shouldn’t take this long to do whatever!” Waria says loudly. Wesley walks over to her and pats her shoulder. “It’s alright. He’ll be back soon. He always comes back.” Rose nods and tells them that any second now, he’ll be walking through that door. But as she says door, there is a knock at the door, and a note gets slipped underneath the door’s crack. Rose picks it up and reads it aloud.
“Dear rebels:
We have your leader. If you ever want to see him alive again, you will do the following”
1) Bring the pendant. 2) 2) Bring it with you to the Creepy Steeple. 3) 3) Come by yourselves; no inforcements. If we notice any, we kill your leader on the spot! 4) 4) No tricks! We won’t pull any if you don’t. We swear. If you follow these instructions, then we won’t harm your precious leader, and we will give him back if you give us back the pendant.
Sincerely, The Leader Of The Shadow Stalkers Beldam”
Rose crumples up the note, tosses it to the trash, and punches the wall; destroying it. Wesley and Waria gape in awe. She turns to them. “We have to rescue him.” Waria and Wesley sigh. Waria says that it’s obvious they have to, but Wesley finishes saying that they will need a plan. “We can’t just barge in fighting, what if there’s a trap waiting for us?” Waria agrees with Wesley. “Exactly. I sense a trap. But, the weird thing about that ransom letter, is the pendant. Last time I saw Keenan had it.” Rose turns to face the group. “Not necessarily…” She puts her hand into her shirt and pulls out a necklace from around her neck. It’s gold, has a fuzzy, and a jungle background. It’s Keenan’s necklace. Both Waria and Wesley pretend to gasp, for they already knew about their relationship, and she tucks it back into her shirt, hiding it from view. “I say we go now. Grab everything you can carry with your own body and only the necessities! We head out in five minutes!” “Well now wait a minute here!” Waria objects. Rose slowly turns to look at her. “Yes? You have a question about the plan?” Waria gulps. “Actually, yes, I do. Who elected you leader? Keenan is the leader, and normally when he is gone, me and Wesley share the leadership role. Whoever made you our replacement?” Rose slowly walks up to Waria, kneels down to eye-level, and breathes in slowly. “Well, if you really want to know, I did.” “Well what about me and Wesley? We didn’t vote for you.” Rose gets up to be above her now and she continues. “If you don’t like it, you can leave. But I for one am going to rescue my Kenny. You got that?!” Waria flinches at “Kenny” and sighs. “Alright. I’m going with you. Who am I to screw up someone’s love?” Rose cringes on love. Then she goes to her bed and starts to get stuff gathered up. Wesley and Waria begin to do the same. Five minutes later, they’re all ready to go, and Rose takes the lead. They head out, check in their room key, pay for their time there, and march out the front door. As the group has a dramatic montage of places they pass and people they walk by, they finally reach their destination. Creepy Steeple.

Chapter 11-A New Old Friend
The group has finally arrived at the Creepy Steeple; the place where Keenan is being held captive. Rose, the martial arts master and master marks-woman, is the temporary leader. Waria, the strong brainy beauty, is right behind her. Finally, at the rear, Wesley. Wesley’s the super-strong Yoshi of the group. Together, they hope to rescue their official leader, a Koopa by the name of “Killer” Keenan, who has been captured and is being held in Creepy Steeple as a prisoner of the villainous group of sentry, the Shadow Stalkers. The three must fight through a building full of these things just to find their leader, break him out, and get him out of there. This is what happens next.
Rose, Waria, and Wesley, have finally arrived at the Creepy Steeple. They see it’s been abandoned for some time now. It seems to have an evil aura about it… Wesley walks up to the front door. He opens the door which creaks loudly. Waria slowly walks inside, and due to her light weight, she can creep along quietly. The plan they agreed on was that she quietly, like a ninja, find Keenan’s location and report it back to the group. She goes out a nearby door of the front door after a Shadow Siren guard comes in. She manages to sneak all the way around to the other door down the path. Once again, when a guard comes through, she sneaks past it and through the door. She gets to a large room with a large staircase. They’re leading to the wall and next to it are two doors. She saw a switch back behind the door she came in, and she puts 2 and 2 together, and goes back to hit the switch. When she is about to grab the door handle, it starts turning, and she immediately goes up the wall by clinging. “Good thing I took those Ninja lessons” she whispers to herself. At that time, two large Shadow guards go through the door and she sneaks past them. On her way through, however, she accidentally moves a leaf which rustles. The first guard taps the shoulder of the second, much bigger one. “Hey, dude, did you hear that?” The bigger one turns to him. “Did I hear what? I told you, if you’re going to patrol with me, that you need to watch out and not talk to me.” “I know that! I know I heard something over there, and I was wondering if you heard it.” “Rookie. If YOU hear it, then YOU check it. So go check it out.” The rookie sighs and heads out the door. Waria manages to stay behind him when he comes out. The guard knows something is there and looks to his right. When he does, Waria manages to stay behind him by moving to the left. Same thing when the guard looks to the left. Then the guard quickly whirls around, and in the nick of time, Waria manages to jump up and silently grab the framing of the roof above them. The guard scratches his head, shrugs, and goes back inside. Waria waits until the two guards go into the other door opposite of hers in the staircase room. Then she jumps down, hits the switch, and goes back to the staircase room. The stairs have moved to the right side door. She goes up and through the door to a long corridor. Its up at the decorative glass. She sneaks down the path to another door. She goes to open it when she hears a conversation on the other side. She listens closely. She hears two guards talking. “But Fred, why do we have to keep this guy locked up anyway? I mean, after all, he doesn’t fit the description of this Keenan fellow…” Waria hears this voice first. She almost gasps when she hears Keenan. “Because, George, we had to kidnap somebody named Keenan, and this guy is named Keenan. That’s why. You really want to anger Miss Cackletta or Beldam?” This one sound much larger than the George fellow. “I don’t want to anger them, but, if we caught the wrong one…” “Don’t be ridiculous! We got the right one, I know it. Beldam said that her recon force told her he was leaving the inn in town, going through the town, and headed for a laboratory to meet some old guy. That’s where we found him. He MUST be the right one.” “But what if he’s not? What if we captured someone else and “Killer” Keenan is still at large? What if we WERE wrong?!” George is getting very nervous now. He even sounds scared. “Calm dwon George! You weren’t created by cloning in a lab and given your own personality for nothing you know! You need to buck up, believe in yourself, and go with your instincts. Only then, and only then, will you feel at ease. True ease.” “That was –sniff- beautiful! –sob-“ George is obviously the emotional one. Fred must be the compassionate one in comparison. “Well, either way, we need to report to Beldam. We need to do that before our shift ends, or otherwise, we may be in for a fate worse than being fired.” “Yeah, good idea, I’ll follow you then!” George apparently is a little scared of Beldam. She hears their shadows turning and she quickly jumps up and clings to a lamp above the door. Just then, the two guards exit the door. As Waria thought, her idea of what they looked like was correct. George was pretty round, but Fred was bigger. They head down the corridor and through the door. Waria slowly creeps down the wall and through the door. When she gets through the door, she finds herself at a spiraling staircase. She slowly walks up the stairs, and to her surprise, she finds a human boy on a video game for a PS3 at the other end of a medium-sized room filled with all the wants of a modern teenage boy who likes independence. A PS3, an Xbox 360, all the Halo games, and other things for the systems. Even a Wii with Super Smash Brothers Brawl was there! There was also a little drawer under the entertainment center, which was about five feet tall completely stuffed with movies and cd’s. Inside the drawer was a modem for wireless wi-fi connection. “Who are you?” Waria asks the boy. The boy stops looking at the tv screen, after pausing it of course, and looks at Waria. His face changes from “yay I’m having a lot of fun” to pure shock. “WARIA?! What are you doing here?!” Waria goes up the last few steps to enter the room. “How do you know my name?” The boy gets up, and measures about 6’ 5” tall. He walks over to Waria and gives her a great big hug! A complete stranger just gave Waria a hug! “I thought for a moment that you guys would’ve forgotten about me!” The boy starts to tear up a little bit. Waria notices the tears easily, since his eyes are a solid and vivid sonic-blue color. “Ooookaaayyyy… why did you ust hug me like that?” “You don’t recognize me, do you?” the boy goes over to the windows, which are covered by a lovely fall orange sheet, and he pulls them away from the windows. Iron bars can be seen. “I’m trapped in here. Luckily, they gave me whatever the hell I wanted, toy and game wise, and left me up here. The stuff is great, but it does get rather lonely up here…” The boy just sits back down on the floor in front of the tv with a loud thump. “Maybe, if you’re not too busy, you could play a game with me. What do you say?” Waria starts twisting her toes in the carpet, not sure of what to say. “I would, but sadly, I need to tell my team what I’ve found out. The Keenan I’m looking for does not seem to be here at the Steeple. Do you know anything about a Koopa called “Killer” Keenan? If you know anything, it’ll be of great help to us.” The boy lays down on his back. “You don’t understand, obviously, but you don’t need to look any longer for this “Killer” Keenan the Koopa.” Waria gasps. “And why not?! He’s our leader, he’s been captured, and he is going to be rescued, no matter what you think or say!” The boy sits back up; cross-legged. “Waria, tell me one last thing before you leave then.” Waria, halfway down the stairs, goes back up. “And what would that be?” “Tell me. How are Wesley and my precious Rosey doing?” Waria comes back up the stairs and looks at the boy. She is in complete shock. “What? Not enough proof? Then how’s this for ya?” The boy takes out a belt from his blue backpack, and the belt is black with a fake Crystal Star on it. It’s the champs belt of the Glitz Pit! “Killer” Keenan is the champion of the G.P.! Yet this boy has the belt! Waria gasps and nearly faints. The boy catches her and she looks up at him. His eyes are the exact same color as Keenan’s eyes; Waria just now noticed this. “Keenan? Is it really you?” The boy gets back up from the floor and puts the belt back into his backpack. “Yes. Yes it is me.” He turns around and shows Waria a slip of paper. “Here. Read this. It may explain a little better than I could.” Waria takes the slip and reads it. It states that Keenan the Koopa has recently purchased the newest invention of a Professor E. Gadd from Goom University. The invention was simply named the bodychangeratoratron and can change the purchasers body into any one choice of a species; as long as it’s the same body type. Humanoid into a different humanoid; quadruped into another kind of quadruped; etc. When Waria finishes reading the receipt, she looks up to the boy. “So, you purchased a whatever-a-tron from this guy, to turn into a human?” Keenan nods. “Yeah. Why?” “ARE YOU FREAKING INSANE?!” “Waria! Calm down! You don’t want to get any guards up here!” Waria starts to breathe slowly. She starts to calm down, when there are odd moving sounds coming from the stairs. Keenan quickly turned to the TV and resumes playing Brawl while Waria jumps and clings to the ceiling. Two guards come up the stairs and look around. They don’t see Waria. “Keenan! What was that noise! It sounded like someone else besides you were up here!” Keenan pauses Brawl and turns to the guards. “No. It was my game. I accidentally sat on the remote and turned up the volume. Sorry to cause a panic. I’ll remember to keep things a bit tidier from now on. Again, I sincerely apologize.” The stouter guard moves forward. “But, that didn’t sound like the TV we got you. It sounded like someone real was talking to you. Explain that!” Waria realizes that these two guards are Fred and George from earlier! Fred continues. “He’s right. How is that possible?” Keenan starts to sweat but makes sure the guards don’t notice. “Well, ever heard of those speakers that you can hook up to other things with a cord and use them as actual speakers? Like this one?” Keenan pulls out of the outlet a plug that leads to a small iHome accessory that he rigged up to the TV. “Would that explain it enough for ya?” George chuckles nervously. “Oh. My mistake.” Fred slaps him upside the head. “You wingnut! You tried to get him into trouble for nothing!” “Well I didn’t mean to! Jeez!” George says rubbing his head. Fred hovers towards the stairs and begins going down. He turns to Keenan. “Hey, I should probably not tell you this… but there have been reports of something purple around the Steeple.” Keenan chuckles. “Like you things?” “Yeah. Like us. Only not a Shadow Folk you moron!” Keenan merely goes “Meh” at this. Its like as if he don’t care. “Well, this purple thing, it’s been recorded as small, about half your size, maybe a little bigger, and as fast as a starving chain chomp chasing Wario smothered in gravy and cranberry sauce. So, if you see anything, let me know. You won’t get the credit of course, but, you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours. You help me get this thing, and I’ll see to it that you get things you couldn’t get before! Minus freedom of course. You understand.” “Yeah, yeah I understand. I’ll be sure to let you know; count on it.” “Thanks bud!” He clicks his tounge to his teeth and points a finger at Keenan while winking. He goes back down the stairs. George closely follows, but stops halfway out of sight, and looks around again. “Come on you big oaf!” Fred says while grabbing George and pulling him out of sight. They wait until they hear the door shut. Quietly Waria climbs across the ceiling and jumps back down, resembling a Licker from RE, and walks over to Keenan, who grabs her shoulder. “So, you believe me now?” Waria doesn’t say anything. She just hugs him and heads back downstairs. Before she leaves though, she winks at Keenan. “Don’t worry! We’ll have you out really soon!” She leaves Keenan and he hears the door open again, then quietly shut. “Good! I’m finally gonna get out of this lonely place. It is fun though, with all these games and movies, I could wait a LONG time!” He chuckles a little and goes back to playing Brawl.

Yeah. Speaking of this story, guess what happened today? I'm about to post up my next chapter, when I hit backspace by accident instead of enter, and in my absolute panic, I managed to delete it all! Long story short, two whole chapters...GONE! I'm working on getting them redone.
